At the U.S.–China Strategic & Economic Dialogue the United States and China met to affirm the importance of a well-functioning civil aviation system in promoting economic development and prosperity. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Catherine Novelli and Vice Minister of Transport Feng Zhenglin of China convened a special breakout session on civil aviation on June 5th, with the participation of multiple government agencies from both countries.
The two sides agreed to work together to ensure that national air transportation systems can readily adapt to rapid growth in demand for travel and cargo transport, while maintaining high standards of safety, security and efficiency.
The United States and China have more than 30 years of close cooperation on aviation.
The breakout session reflected mutual agreement that enhanced bilateral cooperation on aviation can benefit the economies of both countries.
