Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Andrea L. Thompson will travel to China and Japan, January 30 – February 1, 2019.

In China, the Under Secretary will lead the U.S. delegation at the 2019 P5 Conference in Beijing, with counterparts from the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and China. Topics will include nonproliferation, arms control, and international security.

Additionally, the Under Secretary will conduct bilateral meetings with senior government officials.

In Japan, Under Secretary Thompson will meet with senior government officials to expand partnerships on defense trade and nonproliferation. The United States and Japan continue to coordinate on respective Indo-Pacific strategies, including joint infrastructure projects and other multilateral economic and security initiatives in the region.
