Shanghai Cultural Affairs Officer hosts talk on Local Civic Engagement

Cultural Affairs Officer Joshua Lustig delivered a talk on how “all politics is local” to an audience of 16 Chinese. Lustig highlighted the importance of state governments, city councils, and school boards, as well as the many ways Americans can get involved in governing their local communities.  Audience members were intrigued by the decentralized nature of the American political system and the myriad forums in which Americans can voice their opinions. The attendees left with a better understanding of how decisions in the U.S. are made at a local level, and how local issues influence the national discussion.
