High School Exchange Students Wowed Shanghai Audience with Chinese-Language

Jul. 25, Shanghai – As interest in U.S. high school continues to grow amongst Chinese young people and their parents, The Shanghai American Center (ShAC) hosted a panel featuring five American high school students participating on a Mandarin language program to discuss their own high school experience. The students, who come from different regions of the U.S. and are all in the 12th grade, are participants in the State Department’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth program, a six-week exchange for advanced high school language learners. The students discussed the pressure from academic and social life and described how they are now preparing for college entrance exams in fluent Mandarin to the audience of about 60 students and parents, the majority of who had never before attended a ShAC event.
