Bettina began her assignment in Beijing in August 2020, following two years of full-time Mandarin language study. She has practiced public diplomacy for 20 years, previously as Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Canberra, Australia, and while serving at U.S. Embassies in the Philippines (twice), Malaysia, Ethiopia, and Pakistan.
