Anti-Domestic Violence Forum Builds Coalition for Change

A high level forum on the local implementation of China’s anti-domestic violence law at Shanghai’s PwC Innovation Centre brought together over 100 leaders from government, civil society, academia and business to discuss ongoing challenges and practical solutions.  The forum, which U.S. Consulate Shanghai co-hosted with UN Women, the Shanghai’s Women’s Federation, and the Australian Consulate, featured a keynote speech from UN Women China Country Program Manager Julie Broussard as well as frank panel discussions on international perspectives and civil society’s role in preventing domestic violence.  In her opening remarks, Shanghai Deputy Principal Officer Gwendolyn Cardno emphasized the role the diplomatic community can play in connecting stakeholders and encouraged participants to join a new WeChat networking group, which U.S. Consulate Shanghai will use to coordinate future events.
