Ambassador Branstad’s Statement On the 10th Anniversary of Sichuan Earthquake

Ten years ago, Sichuan was struck by a powerful earthquake which unleashed devastation throughout the region and claimed the lives of nearly 70,000 people, many of them children. Tragedies like this remind us all of our shared humanity, and people throughout America mourned the victims, prayed for survivors, and sent relief supplies and assistance. In the years since, Americans have reached out to some of the most affected communities to offer support during the long process of recovery and rebuilding. All of us at the U.S. Mission in China once again honor the memories of those who lost their lives ten years ago, and reaffirm our sympathy and support to the survivors who have bravely and tirelessly rebuilt their communities since then. – Ambassador Terry Branstad
